HIS PIECE OF FRAMED WALL ART FEATURES A FIRST DAY OF ISSUE OF THE USPS NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE BICENTENNIAL STAMP ISSUED IN 1988, THE USPS STATE BIRD AND FLOWER STAMP (FINCH AND LILAC) , AND THE UNITED STATES MINT 50 STATES NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE COIN AS WELL AS A 7.25" X 5.5" PRINT OF THE "OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN" PROFILE IN FRANCONIA , NH AS SEEN BEFORE ITS FALL IN 2003. THIS PROFILE IS Offical USPS item.
FEATURED is the THE NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE COIN ISSUED BY THE US MINT IN ITS 50 STATES PROGRAM WHICH RAN FROM 1999-2008.
THE OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN, ALSO KNOWN AS "THE GREAT STONE FACE" WAS A SERIES OF 5 GRANITE CLIFF LEDGES ON CANNON MOUNTAIN IN THE WHITE MOUNTAINS OF NEW HAMPSHIRE, USA. WHEN VIEWED FROM THE SOUTH IT APPEARED TO BE THE PROFILE OF A FACE. THE FIRST RECORDED MENTION OF THE OLD MAN WAS IN 1805, DISCOVERED BY A SURVEYING TEAM. IT COLLAPSED ON MAY 3, 2003.
THE OLD MAN WAS FAMOUS LARGELY BECAUSE OF STATESMAN DANIEL WEBSTER, A NEW HAMPSHIRE NATIVE, WHO ONCE WROTE "MEN HANG OUT THEIR SIGNS INDICATIVE OF THEIR RESPECTIVE TRADES, SHOEMAKERS HANG OUT A GIGANTAIC SHOE, JEWELERS A MONSTER WATCH, AND THE DENTIST HANGS OUT A GOLD TOOTH, BUT UP IN THE MOUNTAINS OF NEW HAMPSHIRE GOD ALMIGHTY HAS HUNG OUT A SIGN TO SHOW THAT HE MAKES MEN."
THE PROFILE HAS BEEN THE NH STATE EMBLEM SINCE 1945 AND HAS BEEN PUT ON THE STATE LICENSE PLATE, AUTO ROUTE SIGNS,
AND ON THE BACK OF NH'S STATEHOOD QUARTER, WHICH IS POPULARLY PROMOTED AS THE ONLY US COIN WITH A PROFILE ON EACH SIDE!IN APRIL 1982
THE USPS ISSUED A SET OF 50 STAMPS COMMEMORATING THE STATE BIRDS & FLOWERS. THE NH STATE STAMP IS A 20 CENT STAMP DEPICTING THE PURPLE FINCH AND THE LILAC WHICH ARE THE STATE BIRD AND FLOWER.
THIS IS ALSO A FIRST ISSUE STAMP INCLUDED WITHIN THE FRAMED PIECE. THE STORY OF THE STAMP PROGRAM OF STATE BIRDS AND FLOWERS BEGINS IN 1978 WHEN FATHER-SON WILDLIFE ARTISTS ARTHUR & ALAN SINGER WERE HIRED TO CREATE 50 PAINTINGS OF STATE BIRDS AND FLOWERS FOR A SET OF ORIGINAL PAINTINGS. THE US POSTAL SERVICE DECIDED TO ISSUE A 50 STAMP RELEASE SHOWING THE FATHER & SON'S WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS. THE FATHER AND SON LABORED FOR A YEAR-ARTHUR CREATED THE BIRDS, ALAN PAINTED THE FLOWERS.
EACH STAMP IS UNIQUE-MAKING IT THE FIRST SERIES OF ITS SIZE TO FEATURE ORIGINAL ARTWORK FOR EACH STAMP. AT THE TIME OF THEIR ISSUE, THESE STAMPS WERE THE MOST POPULAR IN US POSTAL HISTORY. THIS FRAMED POSTAGE ART PIECE IS BEAUTIFUL GIFT TO ADD TO THE COLLECTION OF ANY STAMP COLLECTOR OR NEW HAMPSHIRE RESIDENT!
